Six Simple Ways to Support Your Health

The world of holistic health and wellness is, consumed with so many "things" that we apparently need or should have, in order to thrive.  These are things like expensive fancy water filters, yoga classes, infrared saunas, detox programs and supplements for literally everything! Wraps, teas, and coffees that are promising you a flat tummy and to free you of cellulite. 100’s of different “clean” facewashes, lotions, ect… you name it, it’s out there!

Yes, those yoga classes and the infrared sauna are therapeutic, good for your soul, a good way to get out, do something healthy, a way to meet new people, or away to take some relaxing time to yourself after a busy weekend. Yes, some of those detoxes, and supplements (if used right) are helpful and make you feel good after. But let’s be honest here, a lot of the products out there claiming to be clean and holistic are just the next gimmick. Are the products actually clean? Maybe. Do they really work? Some, yes. Do they make you feel good or bring you joy? Probably. Are they necessary? NO!

It can be so incredibly overwhelming trying to weed your way through all of the different “things” out there that you want to do or think that you need to help you be healthy and to feel your best. There are so many different products and things that are suggested to help with everything, and the internet is full of conflicting info on all of it… And the truth is, we don’t necessarily need them!

That’s where I come in…

My practice thrives on helping to get my clients back to the basics, to help them weed through all of the things and help them find what truly works for them. To find what is actually needed to help them live their best life for them, all while feeling their best!

That all being said, I am going to share six simple ways to support your health, that take you back to the basics and that will help you start on your journey of feeling like your best self again!

1) Water!!!

Now I know that we all already know that water is super necessary to keep us hydrated, especially during those hot summer days!!

Water is needed by the body for so many other reasons!

  • Water is a transporter, protector, and regulator in our bodies.

  • Water is what is needed to keep our bodies and organs functioning.

  • Our blood is 90% water, and our muscles are 75% water making it essential to our health, fitness, longevity, and vitality!

  • Water eliminates toxic substances and produces digestive enzymes.

  • Water keeps your skin, hair, and organs maintained.

  • Water helps your body absorb essential vitamins and minerals.

  • Water also helps to regulate your body temperature, cooling you down by evaporating through your skin.

Therefore, water is the top essential nutrient that we can give our body, we can not survive without it and it is super easy to get in the RDA of water every day!

2) Move your Body Daily!

Whether it be walking, running, swimming, biking, yoga, weightlifting, HIIT, the list goes on!

Daily movement keeps us both physically and mentally healthy! It can reduce stress, boost our energy, elevate our moods, strengthen our bones and muscles and improve our ability to do everyday activities. Plus, no matter what your fitness level, there’s something for everybody to do!

The best part is, is that it doesn’t have to be long, 30min of daily movement will do all of that!! It will also help set the intention of trying fun, new workouts as you get into it. Even better, as you make daily movement a habit in your life and try new movements/workouts that you have never done (or not done in a long time) you will soon realize that your body and mind are capable of soooo much more than you new!!

3) Get a Good Nights Rest!

Getting enough sleep every night is one of the best things that you can do for your body and mind. Us adults should be aiming for 7-9 hours of quality sleep a night!

Yes, I know that it isn’t always easy, but for so many reasons it is important!

Getting 7-9 hours of good quality sleep helps to reduce stress, anxiety and irritability – all things that sleep deprivation causes!

While we sleep our bodies grow and go into repair mood – yes, that is why when you are sick or injured you need to stop over doing it and get as much rest as you can!

It’s not always easy getting a good night’s sleep, here’s a few things that can help:

  •  Turn of all electronics before bed and dim the lights in your house

  • Take a relaxing Epsom salt bath (also good for sore/stiff muscles and to help replenish your electrolytes)

  • Drink chamomile or sleepy time tea

  •   Read in bed for 30 min before bed

  • Make sure that your room is not just dark enough, but also cool enough (but not too cold)

4) Practice Grounding/Earthing!

Grounding (also called earthing) is a good one that a lot of people might not know about.

Grounding is a therapeutic technique involving activities that electrically reconnect you to the earth.

There are many ways to practice grounding. My favorite is to find a spot outside in nature, bare feet, sit, stand, sometimes walk, in silence, just breath and take it all in. Too really feel the grass and connect with the ground and my surroundings.

Grounding is good for many things, including:

  • Promotes relaxation in turn reducing stress

  • Helps to clear your head

  •  Helps you feel balanced, strong and centered

  • Benefits heart health

  •  Improves your mood

  • Is known for reducing chronic pain and inflammation

5) Take Time for You

It’s no secret that these days, for so many people, daily life is crazy busy!   Whether you are a stay-at-home parent, a working parent, a person with no kids but a busy job, a university student, a kid in school and in sports/extracurricular activities, ect. Peoples lives (of all ages) just seem to be getting busier and busier, causing less time to do things for them.

This causes more stress and anxiety, sleeping problems, and not eating right – all of which will eventually cause health scares and/or problems.

It is so important to take time to yourself at least a couple times a week. To do something for you, by yourself. To do something that will relax you, help you ease your stress, and that will give you a time out from the craziness of the daily grind! Whether it be a dinner out by yourself, a relaxing bath, a walk outside, going to a park to read, fishing, hiking, working out, or a day at the spa…

This will look different for everyone and there are no limitations on what it could be!

6) Eating a Well-Balanced Diet!

I know, I know, this is something that the majority of you, if not all of you, already know and have been told all throughout your life. But eating a well-balanced diet is just as important as drinking your water!!

Food is such an important part of thriving in life! However, just like eating nothing, you can’t just eat anything and everything all day and expect to thrive – you need balance and good, healthy whole foods!

I’m not saying not to eat that pizza, or the burger and fries, or even the dessert. However, don’t let that be all that you eat!

Your body thrives off of the nutrients in the fresh fruit and veggies, the fiber in them and in grains is what keeps your bowls regular. The healthy fats in avocados, fish, nuts and seeds is keeping your brain healthy. The green foods keep your heart healthy, yellow is fantastic for digestion, reds are great for immunity and along with orange foods fantastic for keeping your eyes healthy. Purples and blues are full of antioxidants. There are so many benefits to a well-balanced diet full of these healthy whole foods, they keep your body healthy and happy, keep your gut in check, which in turn keeps your brain in check. You’ll have more energy, sleep better and over all you’ll be happier, healthier and continue to thrive!
